Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features numerous luxuries aside from the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
