There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of most borders.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features many comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
